The 16th Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) was held from 9th to 14th
December 2020 hosted by the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) at the New Club Obligato, Kampala under the theme “Teachers: Leading In Crisis, Reimagining The Future.” Living under the “new normal,” the conference was held following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set by the Government of Uganda and Ministry of Health to curb the contraction and spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus. Delegates from Eastern, South Western, Northern, Southern, Busoga, Central, Karamoja, West Nile, Teso and Western regions, National Executive Council (NEC) and staff members attended the conference. The ADC was was successfully held, in the presence of guests such as Mr. Ondama Apollo, a Commissioner from Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development and some of the members of the WALIMU SACCO
While the ideal situation was to hold a joint ADC as had been the case for the past 15 years it was done in 2 groups. The delegates were asked to embrace the ‘New Normal’ and still accord the conference with the same interest and consideration as other ADCs. The ADC is constitutional and the matters of discussion are of utmost importance to UNATU. As delegates representing the interests of union members, it was therefore upon them to make the ADC count.
