The second week of the INSET training programme for teachers commenced with a grand opening at Gulu Core PTC in Gulu City and Loro Core PTC, Oyam District, drawing esteemed educators and dignitaries. This training, a collaborative effort between the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) and the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU), aims to enhance professional development and educational quality in Uganda.
The programme welcomed 80 dedicated teachers, with 40 participants at Gulu Core PTC from Nwoya and Kitgum districts, and another 40 at Loro Core PTC from Dokolo and Lira districts. Throughout the week, these educators will engage in comprehensive sessions on Instructional Strategies, Leadership in Education, Learning Styles, and Classroom Management.
At Gulu Core PTC, the event was graced by the District Inspector of Schools (DIS) as the Chief Guest, the Principal of Gulu Core PTC, selected tutors from CTF and Gulu Core PTC, and a regional delegation including the Vice National Treasurer, the Regional Chairperson Northern, and college tutors. Significant figures such as the General Secretary of UNATU, the Gender Officer, and the Regional Coordinator Northern were also in attendance, along with Branch Chairpersons from Nwoya and Kitgum districts.
Simultaneously, at Loro Core PTC, the opening ceremony featured the District Education Officer (DEO) from Dokolo as the Chief Guest, accompanied by the Principal of Loro Core PTC, a representative for Secondary School Education, the Vice Regional Chairperson, the Regional Administrator,Tutors from CTF and the Core PTC. Branch Chairpersons from Dokolo, Oyam, and Lira districts also participated in the event.
Speakers at both venues expressed deep gratitude to the participants for their dedication and commitment to the training. They emphasized the importance of active participation and implementing the acquired knowledge in their respective schools. The collaborative efforts of CTF and UNATU in fostering quality education were highlighted, with speakers encouraging participants to act as ambassadors of the knowledge they gain.
Throughout the day, attendees engaged in various topical discussions, including enhancing the strength of UNATU as a union, led by the General Secretary, and promoting Gender Equality in Education and the Union, facilitated by the Gender Officer. Participants were assured of a supportive environment and were encouraged to voice any concerns promptly.
The successful inauguration of Week 2 of the INSET training programme underscores a positive trajectory for the sessions ahead, reinforcing the commitment to professional development and quality education for Ugandan teachers. This initiative not only strengthens the skills and knowledge of educators but also signifies a vital step towards improving the educational landscape in Uganda through international collaboration and dedicated local effort.
