The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU), in partnership with the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF/FCE) and with funding from Global Affairs Canada, officially closed out the Simameni Project in a high-level event held at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala. The meeting marked the culmination of a five-year journey aimed at improving access to, retention in, and educational opportunities for secondary school-going girls in Uganda’s Teso and Western regions.

Simameni Project Teso Regional Closeout: A Legacy of Empowerment and Sustainability

Stakeholders from across the education, health, cultural, and community sectors gathered at Bethany Hall in Kumi District to mark the regional closeout of the Simameni Project in the Teso Region. The event brought together head teachers, PTA and BOG chairpersons, Simameni club leaders, senior women and men teachers, students, local leaders, CTF representatives, and the UNATU Secretariat to celebrate the transformation Simameni has sparked in secondary schools.

Simameni Western Region Follow-Up Meeting: Advancing Gender-Responsive Education

On April 12th, 2025, the Simameni Project held a follow-up meeting at Tropical Gardens Hotel, Kyenjojo District. The gathering brought together school leaders, BOG and PTA chairpersons, District Education Officers, and UNATU representatives from Kyenjojo, Kyegegwa, Kibaale, and Kamwenge. The focus was to assess progress, address gaps, and reinforce gender-responsive practices in schools.
