On 8th July 2024, the INSET Programme officially commenced its first week with great enthusiasm, thanks to the collaborative efforts of UNATU and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF). This initiative, known for its comprehensive Continuous Professional Development courses, is set to empower 80 dedicated educators across two key locations: Gulu Core PTC in Gulu City and Loro Core PTC in Oyam District.
The opening ceremonies were graced by several distinguished guests. At Loro Core PTC, the event was honored by the presence of the District Education Officer (DEO) from Oyam District, the Principal of Loro Core PTC, and selected tutors from both Canada and the PTC. Also in attendance were the General Secretary of UNATU, the Regional Vice Chairperson, and Branch Chairpersons representing Lira, Dokolo, and Oyam districts. The Regional Administrator, situated in Lira District, added to the event’s significance.
Meanwhile, at Gulu Core PTC, the ceremony saw representation from the DEO, represented by the Municipal Education Officer, along with the Principal of Gulu Core PTC and selected tutors from both Canada and the PTC. The regional delegation included the Regional Chairperson, Vice National Treasurer, and representatives for tutors in the college. Additionally, key figures such as the Deputy General Secretary of UNATU, the Program Officer, the Gender Officer, and the Regional Coordinator from Gulu City attended. Branch Chairpersons from Nwoya and Kitgum districts rounded out the gathering.
Throughout the day, participants were deeply engaged in discussions, receiving crucial membership education and sharing their aspirations for the programme. Teachers expressed their gratitude to CTF for its invaluable support, which has enabled them to access high-quality professional development opportunities.
Looking ahead, this programme promises not only to enhance classroom practices but also to strengthen professional networks and leadership within the educational community. As teachers take center stage in shaping the future of education, their commitment and dedication are set to be further fueled by the ongoing support of CTF and UNATU.
