Simameni Project Officially Launched in Teso and Western Uganda

In February 2020, the Simameni Project was officially launched in the Teso and Western regions of Uganda, marking the beginning of a strategic effort to advance gender equity and improve education outcomes for girls.

The launch involved key meetings in Soroti (Teso region) on February 20th to the 21st, 2020 and Fort Portal (Western region) on February 25th to 26th 2020. The meetings were attended by various stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES), local government officials, district leaders, gender officers, head teachers of the implementing schools, UNATU regional chairpersons, The National and Vice Chairpersons of UNATU, the General Secretary, the program officers for Western Teso regions and representatives from the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF/FCE).

The objective of the workshops was to review, validate, and plan the Simameni Project in collaboration with those closest to the school communities. During these meetings, a gender analysis report was presented, key elements of the project’s Logic Model were reviewed, and core components of the Project Implementation Plan (PIP) were co-developed with stakeholders.

The launch events demonstrated the strength of partnership between UNATU, local authorities, and international collaborators. Special appreciation was given to Global Affairs Canada (GAC) for the financial support towards the project.
