UNATU KICKS OFF 2024 WITH SUCCESSFUL STRATEGIC PLANNING

The 18th Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) that sat at New Club Obligato-Teachers House in Kampala, from the 7th to 9th December 2023 under the theme “The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage” discussed and adopted the workplan and budget that is meant to guide union activities in 2024.

The workplan and budget was developed guided by UNATU’s Strategic Plan (2018-2025) which is being implemented under the following thematic areas;

    1. Building a cohesive, credible and strong union

    1. Improving the teaching environment and quality of education

    1. Enhancing socio economic development of teachers

The Union staff at regional and secretariat levels also convened from 8th to 10th January, 2024 to draw up the departmental/unit, regional and branch planning guidelines. Thereafter, the regional and branch executive committees also met to draw up their own workplans and budgets.

THE MAIN FOCUS AREAS FOR 2024 INCLUDE;

    • Advocacy for salary enhancement for other categories of teachers

    • Recruitment of new members

    • Reinstatement of old members whose codes dropped off

    • Developing of a comprehensive membership database

    • Resource mobilization for interventions that directly benefit members in different regions

    • Digital skilling of members through the UNATU Laptop project and other free virtual ICT trainings

    • Scaling of the campaign to increase funding for Public education

    • Regular engagements/ updates with members through our existing communication platforms.
