The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU), in partnership with the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF/FCE) and with funding from Global Affairs Canada, officially closed out the Simameni Project in a high-level event held at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala. The meeting marked the culmination of a five-year journey aimed at improving access to, retention in, and educational opportunities for secondary school-going girls in Uganda’s Teso and Western regions.

Stakeholders from across the education, health, cultural, and community sectors gathered at Bethany Hall in Kumi District to mark the regional closeout of the Simameni Project in the Teso Region. The event brought together head teachers, PTA and BOG chairpersons, Simameni club leaders, senior women and men teachers, students, local leaders, CTF representatives, and the UNATU Secretariat to celebrate the transformation Simameni has sparked in secondary schools.

On 16th June 2025, the Simameni project convened 60 students and 12 teachers from the project-implementing schools in Teso for a student mentorship session at Bethany Hall in Kumi District.

As the Simameni Project nears its conclusion, key education stakeholders from Kibaale, Kyenjojo, Kamwenge, and Kyegegwa districts convened for a high-level engagement workshop to reaffirm their commitment to sustaining the Simameni Project in their communities.

22nd May 2025 | Toro Royal Cottages, Kyenjojo — Day two of the Retooling Teachers on School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV) Prevention workshop brought together educators from Simameni project-implementing schools in Kibaale and Kamwenge districts.

The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) convened its Branch Chairpersons’ Meeting on 19th May 2025, marked by urgent calls for renewed commitment, accountability, and a forward-thinking mindset among union leaders.
