UNATU SACCO provides savings, credit and product-financing solutions designed to support teachers’ economic empowerment and personal development.
UNATU SACCO was formed and registered under the Cooperative Societies Act Cap 112 on 3 December 2012 as a Voluntary Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisation, mainly to champion teachers’ economic empowerment.
UNATU SACCO operates nationally, and membership is open to teachers across Uganda. Members are served through UNATU branches, SACCO desk offices, email, telephone and online channels.

The SACCO offers a variety of products and services to promote members’ economic empowerment and personal development.
The SACCO saves members’ money at no cost and pays annual interest. A member may withdraw money at any time, provided there is no running loan with the SACCO.
Emergency loans based on affordability, with repayment within a maximum of six months. The stated interest rate is 1.25% per month.
Loans offered according to a member’s affordability and ability to service the loan, with a repayment period not exceeding three years.
Loans for members starting or expanding businesses and projects. Additional acceptable security may be required where the requested amount exceeds salary-deduction affordability.
Education financing offered for a period not exceeding one year, based on the member’s affordability. Terms and conditions apply.
Members may acquire products such as iron sheets, water tanks, tents, chairs, flat-screen television sets and solar panels on credit, subject to affordability.
Financing for cement, roofing sheets, steel products, pipes, bricks, aggregates, water tanks and related home-improvement materials.
The SACCO provides motorcycle-related loan products, including motorcycles and utility tricycles.
Interested persons on the government payroll may join UNATU SACCO through the following steps.
Obtain and complete a membership form from a UNATU branch office, SACCO desk office or the UNATU SACCO website.
Pay UGX 10,000 membership fee, buy at least two shares at UGX 40,000 each, and begin saving at least UGX 20,000 per month.
Pay through Centenary Bank or authorise UNATU SACCO to deduct the required amount from salary under single code 482.
A member seeking a loan must be fully registered, save monthly and have the affordability or capacity to service the loan.
Obtain a loan application form from a UNATU office or SACCO desk office, complete it and attach the required documents.
Applications may be submitted by hand delivery or by email. Processing time depends partly on how long the member’s district takes to approve deductions relating to the loan request.
