Namayingo District | 6th August 2025 — The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) conducted a one-day mental health training at the Namayingo District Council Hall, targeting key groups within the teaching profession.
The training focused on raising awareness and offering practical support on mental health issues affecting teachers. Participants included retired teachers, head teachers, and young teachers — representing the diverse range of educators impacted by mental health challenges.
The session opened with welcome remarks from the Namayingo Branch Chairperson, who commended the initiative and highlighted the need to address mental wellbeing in the education sector.
The Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Namayingo District officially opened the training, applauding UNATU’s efforts and emphasizing the importance of creating safe, supportive environments for teachers.
A key presentation was delivered by the General Secretary of UNATU, who served as the main facilitator. His session explored the causes and symptoms of mental health issues among teachers, coping mechanisms, and available support systems.
Following the presentation, a plenary session allowed participants to ask questions and share their experiences. Issues such as stress, burnout, and lack of psychosocial support in schools were raised, with calls for sustained interventions.
The training concluded with official closing remarks from the General Secretary, who reiterated UNATU’s commitment to supporting the holistic wellbeing of teachers across the country.
