The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) is currently hosting a delegation from the Tanzania Teachers’ Union (TTU) at its headquarters at Teachers’ House in Kampala. The visiting team is comprised of the Acting General Secretary, the Federation of East African Teacher Unions (FEATU) Coordinator, and the Head of Policy, Research, Database, and International Cooperation.
The visit is part of an ongoing structural consultation between the two unions. It is reinforcing the longstanding relationship and shared commitment to advancing the rights and welfare of teachers across the two nations.
During the engagement with the UNATU Secretariat, the FEATU Coordinator extended fraternal greetings from TTU, expressing deep appreciation for the role UNATU and KNUT continue to play in nurturing FEATU as a space for all teacher unions. He paid tribute to the contributions of former UNATU General Secretary Teopista Birungi for all her efforts. He also added “UNATU’s contribution to the federation is second to none.” He also emphasized how welcome and at home the TTU team feels at UNATU.
UNATU’s Gender Officer delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the TTU team for making the journey and affirming the strong, enduring partnership between the unions. She wished the visitors a warm stay in Uganda and reiterated that UNATU’s doors remain open for continued collaboration. She also thanked the General Secretary for fostering close cooperation with regional counterparts.
In his remarks, the UNATU General Secretary thanked the delegation for their visit and commitment to deepening the union-to-union relationship.
This engagement marks another step in building stronger bonds for the future of education in East Africa and beyond. 🌍✊🏽
