The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) has achieved a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to digitize operations and enhance communication among its members nationwide. On December 10th, 2024, during the 19th Annual Delegates’ Conference (ADC) held at the Agaba Center in Kabale Municipality, UNATU unveiled its groundbreaking digital platform, the UNATU App.
This innovative app, the first of its kind for teachers in Uganda, aligns with the conference’s theme, “Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.” It represents UNATU’s venture into digital innovation, aiming to revolutionize how the union engages with its members and streamlines its activities.
Zadock Tumuhimbise, the National Chairperson, emphasized the app’s potential to strengthen communication among teachers, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and best practices to improve teaching and learning outcomes. He highlighted that the app’s Management Information System (MIS) is specifically designed to foster efficiency and enhance union activities.
“The app that we have launched will streamline the teachers’ activities and foster effectiveness,” Tumuhimbise stated.
Baguma Filbert Bates, the UNATU Secretary General, expressed his enthusiasm for the app, describing it as a long-awaited innovation poised to significantly boost the communication gap between UNATU members across the country.
“This is the time, and we want to move very fast to ensure we utilize it. We want to use it to communicate effectively with our members on a regular basis,” Baguma remarked.
The UNATU App serves as a central platform for seamless communication, timely updates, and enhanced member engagement. By incorporating features such as real-time updates, subscription management, and direct communication channels, the app positions itself as an indispensable tool for UNATU members seeking to stay connected and informed.
The Application can be downloaded via the Google Play Store.
With this innovative step, UNATU reaffirms its commitment to leveraging technology to empower teachers, improve service delivery, and drive the education sector forward.
